Alright I’m sure there’s at least 16 of you that have already closed the screen at my title, and I say to you thank you, come again! If you followed the CFL expansions of 1993-95, 7 American teams entered the CFL, some of them were great (such as the Baltimore Stallions which remains the only American team to win the Grey Cup with their 1995 win) to absolute jokes like the Las Vegas Posse (playing in the middle of +40 degree heat real smart). Now here me out, if the league were to put teams in cities that were relatively close to the Canadian border I think it could work. A team I believe in Portland could work to create another rival for BC. Another team that could possibly work out east is a franchise in New York, I know it was talked about in the past ownership groups wanting to bring a CFL team to New York State possibly and I think if you keep it out of New York City (Rochester, Albany etc) a team could work there.
One thing that the CFL would need for a successful 2nd attempt at American franchises is STABLE OWNERSHIP. No Gilbermans or Nick Mileti types running the franchises because we will wind up with the league back in the red.
The NFL network already shows CFL games so they could create a little bit more American interest with new American franchises and America One and ESPN360 also show CFL games every now and again.
Yes these are the types of things I think about when I’m trying to figure out what I should do with my time. I know, I’m weird.
That’s all for now folks I’m gone but be sure to tune into my show, Avry’s Sports Show every Tuesday night at 6PM Mountain time on http://www.ustream.tv/channel/avryofedmonton and follow me on twitter at http://twitter.com/#!/Avry
